On Friday 11 November, and as part of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, the TDA will be taking over the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay, to celebrate the first year of the Torbay MADE (Manufacturing Activities Designed to Engage) pilot, a project created to inspire young people and promote the Torbay and South Devon manufacturing industry.
Focussing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), TechBay 2016 will be a unique hands-on, interactive experience showcasing the latest technologies to engage and excite our next generation of scientists, engineers and hi-tech engineers.
TechBay 2016 will give students the opportunity to get to grips with real life engineering and science, encouraging their future interest in manufacturing, engineering and advanced electronics.
We would like local engineering and manufacturing businesses to assist us in developing and delivering an interactive programme of activities to engage the young people who will be visiting the event during the day.
The areas of activities where we would like your assistance are as follows;
Activity 1 – TechBay – Engineering: Your Future sessions – A carousel of six 30-minute interactive lesson style activities aimed specifically at year 9 students from Torbay schools.
What would be required: Development of an activity that you could deliver, or help deliver, to small groups of students throughout the day. The activity should be something that will engage, inspire and excite them to consider careers in Hi Tech Manufacturing, Engineering, Advanced Electronics and/or Photonics.
Activity 2 – The TechBay – Mess Hub – An exhibition area where up to 30 businesses will be encouraged to offer interactive activities for students to visit throughout the day. Students will mainly be from secondary and further education.
What would be required: For your organisation to host an exhibition stand (free of charge) providing an interactive element, or elements, which will engage, inspire and excite attendees to consider careers in Hi Tech Manufacturing, Engineering, Advanced Electronics and/or Photonics.
If you would like to participate by delivering any activities, please could you contact Debbie Passmore on firstname.lastname@example.org or 01803 208378. When responding please specify whether you want to host a TechBay – Engineering: Your Future session, TechBay – Mess Hub stand or Both.
There are also opportunities to sponsor specific activities or areas of the event. If you would like further information then please contact Debbie.
